Webb City prepares for playoff opener against COC rival Republic

WEBB CITY, Mo. – The Webb City Cardinals are back in action this week after a first-round bye to begin the district playoffs.

The Cardinals (6-3) will host COC rival Republic (7-3) Friday night in the Class 5 District 6 semifinals. Republic won their first-round playoff game over Parkview last Friday.

Webb City won this matchup 35-14 in the regular season  – but Republic enters Friday’s matchup with a little momentum. The Tigers have won four games in a row, including a win over undefeated Nixa just three weeks ago.

“Last year we were talking about them being one of the best and most improved teams in our conference. Certainly that was the case,” says Webb City head coach John Roderique on Republic, “They’ve got the best win in the league beating Nixa a few weeks ago. They’re probably playing the best at this point of any teams that we see on film. They’re a confident team. When you have a big win like that against an undefeated team, you’re going to gain a lot of confidence.”

“I think about every year they come into the playoffs ready to play, and they’re definitely an improved team this year,” adds Webb City senior DL/LB Lucas Ott, “We know it’s going to be a game. We have to come out and we have to play well. We have to do the fundamentals right and we have to do everything right to win.”

Saturday’s game kicks off a 7 PM at Cardinal Stadium in Webb City.
