Lions aim for upset at #11 Northwest Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions have just two games left in the regular season.

The first of those two games is Saturday, on the road against Northwest Missouri State.

The Bearcats are 7-2 overall this season and ranked #11 in the latest AFCA Division II national poll released earlier this week. Northwest is also fighting for a playoff spot and trying to push their home winning streak to 18 games Saturday – giving the Lions a chance to be major spoilers this weekend.

“We always look to be the spoiler. It’s an opportunity to not only knock them out of the playoff conversation, but to snap the home winning streak they have going on up there,” says MSSU head coach Atiba Bradley, “The other thing that’s bigger than that is that we have some seniors who are really special to this program. They’ve bled green and gold for years. If we can send them out on a high note in these last two games and knock off some teams that think they’re going to get in the postseason, that would be great.”

“That’s our goal. I would love to go up there and upset them,” says MSSU linebacker Coleman Booker, “I would love to end the home streak that they have. It would be a great feeling.”

“I don’t think any team is going to be underestimating us after the last three weeks,” adds MSSU wide receiver Jaedon Stoshak, “They see how the games have gone. They’ll definitely be prepared for us, and we’ll be prepared for them.”

Saturday’s game begins at 1:30 PM in Maryville, Missouri.
