News To Know: fallen hero, Halloween safety

BARRY COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri State Highway Patrol has charged a suspect they say is responsible for the hit-and-run death of an Aurora, Missouri man. The crash occurred on July 15, 2022, on Farm Road 1180. Authorities say they have probable cause to believe Derek Christopher Coburn, 19, is responsible for the collision. A warrant has been issued and police are requesting the following charges:

  • Murder 2nd Degree – Felony Murder
  • Flight From Officers – Drug Perpetration
  • Leaving Scene Of Accident – Accident Resulting In Death
  • Tampering With Motor Vehicle – 1st Degree

PITTSBURG, Kan.– Halloween is almost here and kids will be heading out the door to collect candy. According to Pittsburg Chief of Police, Ben Anderson, it’s important to have reflectors if wearing all dark clothing. He also reminds kids to only go to houses that are well lit, or where people sit in the front. Chief Anderson says they haven’t found any suspicious goods, but parents should still check their children’s candy to make sure it is safe to eat. He also recommends walking in familiar groups.

MISSOURI – Those for and against the legalization of recreational marijuana in Missouri are speaking out. On November 8th Missourians will vote on Amendment 3. If passed, the constitutional amendment will remove state prohibitions on purchasing, possessing, consuming, using, delivering, manufacturing and selling marijuana for personal use for adults over the age of 21. Some marijuana crimes could also be expunged from criminal records.

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – McDonald County High School honored a fallen hero by dedicating a memorial highway. Christopher Lee Marion graduated from McDonald County High School in 2005 before joining the US army. In February 2006, Private First Class Marion was killed while on patrol in Iraq when his military vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
