JAY, Okla. – A trial by jury was cut short today after a man suspected of shooting and killing his wife pleaded guilty to 1st Degree Murder.
On November 4th, 2020, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested 52-year-old, John Hackathorn, on one count of First Degree Murder.
Authorities say they found 60-year-old Mary Hackathorn dead in the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Hackathorn entered a guilty plea on October 24, 2022, and received a life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole.
According to the Probable Cause Statement, Mr. Hackathorn says he killed his wife and then attempted to kill himself but failed.
Court officials say if Hackathorn is paroled, he will pay $20,000 in restitution.
