Massive structure fire spreads from building to building in Carthage, Mo.

CARTHAGE, Mo. — About 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening reports of a commercial structure fire at 100 Grant, NE of the square alerted Jasper County E-911.

First reported on fire was a former sheet metal and lumber business. The fire spread to Carthage oldest Latino Church, Iglesia Christiana at 122 Grant.

Carthage Fire immediately requested support from these departments and others:

  • Avilla Fire
  • Webb City Fire
  • Carterville Fire
  • Duenweg Fire
  • Jasper Mo. Fire

Meteorologist Doug Heady states winds today were gusting up to 55 mph. You can obviously see in our live! report the flames were exacerbated by the high winds.

Chief Ryan Huntley tells us on scene they requested the State Fire Marshals office to assist in their investigation. He also says no firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

The fire was under control just after 10 p.m.

Carthage Firefighters will have a long night. About 11:45 p.m. heavy equipment was arriving to take down portions of roof and walls that are dangerous.
