Donald Wayne Leas, age 76, passed away at 12:22 am., Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Galena Nursing Center following an illness.
Don was born May 7, 1946 in Joplin, MO. His parents were Floyd Daniel and Crystal Daphine (Fisher) Leas. He had lived in Galena most of his life.
Don attended Galena High School. He later served two years in the US Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He then began working at Doane’s Food Products and retired after 25 years in 1995 as a foreman.
He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Baxter Springs, KS where he had served as Elder. He enjoyed camping and boating on the lakes and making trips to Branson.
Don was married to Utona Sue Wammack on September 19, 1968 in Columbus, KS. She survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Connie Sue O’Kelley (husband, Lance), Galena; one brother, Calvin David Leas, Weston, MO; one sister, Kathy Brand, Galena; three grandchildren, Staci Lynne O’Kelley, Kelsey Kay Barnes, and Crysta Leah O’Kelley; and three great-grandchildren, Myles Jacob Schowengerdt, Aspen Barnes, and Hunter Lee Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gary Ray Leas, and one grandson Cooper Lee Schowengerdt.
Don was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, for cremation.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Baxter Springs, KS. The speaker will be Wes Makela.
