Suspect identified involving multiple-county pursuit & manhunt

VERNON COUNTY, Mo. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office today identified the suspect from last weekend’s multi-county pursuit and manhunt.

Officers identified the suspect as 32-year-old Brenton Lee Ross of Kansas City, MO.

“Because three separate counties were involved, the three Sheriff’s requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol conduct the investigation as one incident,” according to the VCSO.

Prosecutors filed the following charges:

• Assault 1st degree
• Two counts of Armed Criminal Action
• Two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon
• Two counts of Assault 2nd degree
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
• Receiving Stolen Property
• Two counts of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle
• Trafficking Drugs or Attempting 1st Degree
• Resisting Arrest

Ross is being held in the Cedar County jail and is awaiting transfer to the Vernon County Jail.

Triple Pursuit

A short time after Vernon County received a call that a car was just stolen in Milo, Deputies with Vernon County located the vehicle and initiated another pursuit.

Vernon County, Barton County, MSHP and Nevada Police assisted in pursuing the vehicle. The vehicle became disabled in a field in rural Vernon County and a search was conducted. After no success, it was decided to discontinue the search.

As Deputies and Officers were about to clear the scene Vernon County received another call that a farmer’s vehicle was stolen and they were following it. A pursuit was initiated by Vernon County.

At one point Deputies with Vernon County were forced to fire at the suspect’s vehicle. The pursuit continued into Cedar County where the vehicle crashed and the driver fled on foot.

MSHP Helicopter was also in pursuit and was able to lead Deputies and Officers to the suspect and take him into custody at about 9:30 p.m. off MO-97 near 1450 Road without incident.
