News to Know: connecting parks grant and KS sheriff amendment

JOPLIN, Mo. — On Monday — Joplin City Council voted to apply for a grant that would help pay for a trail to connect Landreth and Dover parks. The $500,000 grant would come from the state’s land and water conservation fund. The city would have to match at least 50% of it. The deadline to apply for the grant is November 15th.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Council also approved a proposal to add a top golf style attraction to the city. It would be added to the Range Line Golf Center in addition to the 9-hole course and putt-putt courses already there.

JOPLIN, Mo. — New members of the city’s finance committee were also appointed. The committee will review the city’s finances and look for a long term solution to wage and retention issues in the police and fire departments. This change comes after voters rejected a property tax increase to pay for wage increases.

SOUTHEAST Kan. — Midterm elections are 22 days away. One issue on the ballot in Knasas is constitutional amendment question 2. If passed it will guarantee Kansans the right to continue to vote on who their county’s sherrigg are. If not passed — counties can decided to use a charter commission to appoint a sheriff.
