All Ottawa County escapees back behind bars

OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. – The last two of four inmates who escaped their jail pod on Tuesday are back behind bars today.

A Miami police detective was working on a lead looking for Daniel Zajicek. This afternoon, the Miami Police Department, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, and a US Marshal headed to a home on 8G Street NW in Miami. They started banging on the door and made contact with a female. She indicated that he was inside. Authorities started searching and found him in a bedroom of the home. They took him into custody without incident.

The female and another male inside the home were arrested for harboring a fugitive. The Sheriff’s Office says they had spoken with these two earlier in the week. However, they said they had not had contact with Zajicek in a long time.

Earlier this morning, Tyler Tavis was captured. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Tavis was captured in Joplin. According to Undersheriff Rocky Ferdig, they were following leads that led to Joplin. They started working with Joplin Police Department detectives. Joplin authorities took him into custody.

Four inmates escaped Tuesday while in a dorm-style pod. There were contractors working in the pod at the time of their escape.
