William F. Elwell

William Fred Elwell, 95, of Monett, MO, passed from this life to his eternal home on Friday morning, September 30, 2022 while at Lacoba Homes in Monett.

Bill, as he was known by most, was born on May 28, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA, son of the late Fred Harley Elwell and Vera Irene (Fletcher) Elwell. Bill graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1947. Bill worked for many years as a delivery driver for Foremost Milk and later had worked for Wells Aluminum, retiring in 1989. Bill was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge.

On June 30, 1950 in Monett, MO, at the former First Baptist Church, Bill married Verna Mae Scott. They were blessed with three children and over 62 years of companionship before her passing on March 2, 2013.

Bill was also preceded in death by one sister, Mae Ellen Bradley.

Survivors include one son, Rod Elwell and wife Jill, of Lake Ozark, MO; two daughters, Deborah Smiley and husband Dennis, of Broken Arrow, OK and Beckie Briggs and husband Bob, of Mansfield, TX; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Elwell will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Chaplain Gregg Mercer will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Crosslines in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home.
