Fire reported at storage unit facility in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – About 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening fire was reported at 2629 S Rangeline, alerting Joplin Emergency 911.

Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded.  Duenweg Fire Dept were dispatched as automatic mutual aid.

As authorities arrived there were no visible flames.  However there was a smell of smoke in the air and a light haze in an area of interest.

Public Storage, 2629 S Rangeline, is a secured facility.  Our cameras could only observe from a distance, we could see that light haze of smoke from our camera view and smell something burning in the air.

Joplin Firefighters used a metal saw to cut into two different storage units.  Light smoke was still visible.

Liberty Utilities responded and cut power to the building and the issue seemed to resolve itself.

Authorities on the scene said they believe it was an electrical issue.

This is the same storage facility where a woman suffered a serious physical assault last Friday evening.  We do not believe the two events are related.
