NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. – About 4 p.m. Tuesday reports near Downstream Casino of a large plume of smoke that was visible from I-44.  Newton County Central Dispatch was alerted to a fire in the 410o block of Greenwood Drive. Redings Mill Fire, Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Newton County Ambulance responded. Quapaw Fire & EMS and Joplin Fire Dept were requested as mutual aid. TOLEDO, Oh. – Firefighters took on a blaze at a BP oil refinery near Toledo, Ohio on Tuesday evening. A number of people are reported as injured, but an exact number is unknown at this time, as is what started the fire.

CARNEY, Md. – Authorities arrest two people in connection with a suspicious package near a school. Baltimore County police say the Pine Grove Middle school was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. The hazardous device team destroyed the package. No one was injured. Police increased their presence at the school today.

PITTSBURG, Ks. – Pittsburg Public Library is a safe haven for banned books during this week. Banned book week celebrates the freedom to read and points out attempts to ban or censor books. Challenges to books in libraries and schools range from language to social injustices.
