Eric Alan Ewing

Eric Alan Ewing, 45, of Pittsburg, Kansas and formerly of Columbus, passed away Sunday, August 21st in his home. Eric was born August 28, 1977, to Candace Barker Ewing and Mark Ewing of Wichita, KS. Eric was a loving, devoted life partner to Sharon Bass Carpino of the home.

Eric had a fun, active childhood growing up in Wichita. As a child, he loved dirt bikes, swimming, and spending time with his friends, cousins, and family. In adulthood, Eric developed a love for cooking and was an accomplished home chef. Eric enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He enjoyed listening to music and reminiscing of family and friends in his life. Eric enjoyed playing the piano. He also loved boating, fishing, camping, disc golfing, remote control vehicles, gazing at the stars and moon and helping raise his step-daughter, Emily Ann Carpino Popejoy. Eric was a good person, who enjoyed life and making people laugh. Eric also loved his pets, Bubba, Babe, and Ninja.

Eric worked as a skilled floor technician, specializing in laying tile. Eric was baptized and was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Nazarene in Girard.

Eric is preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Barker, of Columbus; his paternal grandparents, Vesta and Bill Ewing of Wichita; his aunt, Cristine Ewing of Wichita; and his uncle, Richard Longstaff, of Wichita’ father-in-law, Mason Bass Jr.

Eric had a special relationship with his brother, Adam Ewing, of Columbus. Eric also had special relationships with his aunt, Wendy Barker, of Roseland, his aunt and uncle, Loretta and Brent Ewing of Wichita, and his cousins, Tommy Gray and Wayne Gray of Roseland, and Megan Kelley of Altamont. Eric will be missed by many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Eric is survived by his life partner, Sharon Carpino of Pittsburg; stepdaughter, Emily Carpino Popejoy (Noah) of Columbus; and brother, Adam Ewing (Mindy) of Columbus. Other survivors include aunts, Vicki Terry (Bill) and Cyndee (Matt) Caster, both of Wichita; Uncle Brent and Aunt Loretta Ewing of Wichita; Aunt Wendy Barker (Mark Tresler) of Roseland; and Aunt Jill Longstaff, of Wichita.

Eric’s extended family includes Lottie Bass (mother of Sharon); Amanda Treiber (Darin and family); sisters Shirley Bass Redd, of Columbus (Frank Riley), Phyllis Bass Kelley, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Loretta Bass (John Kmetz) of Norman, OK; and brothers Randy Bass and Phillip Bass (Cindy Bass) both of Columbus, KS.

Family will have a memorial service on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., at the First Christian Church, Columbus, Ks.
