Bill Wells

GALENA, KANSAS: William Henry “Bill” Wells, age 70 passed away at 2:33 pm, Monday, August 29, 2022 at his home following an illness.

Bill was born July 8, 1952 in Joplin, MO. His parents were Otis “Chuck” and Lois “Martin” Wells. With the exception of his military career, he was a lifetime resident of Galena.

He graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1970. In 1971 he began his 20-year career with the U S Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran, receiving the South Vietnamese Medal of Honor along with 29 medals and ribbons from the American military. Upon his military retirement in 1991, he worked as an auto mechanic, last working for the City of Galena for 5 years as the animal control officer. Bill retired in 2005.

Bill was a member of the Grace Community Church, Riverton, KS. He was also an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He enjoyed motorcycles and had driven his bike on tours through the 49 continental States. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Bill was married to Vicky Rae Burrows on June 2, 1974 in Galena. She survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Brian Wells, Galena, David Wells (Kim), Linton, ND, and Dustin “Dusty” Wells (Ashley), Galena; one brother, Chuck Wells (Martha), Joplin; one sister Rita Watkins (Jerry “Burr”), Galena; Granddaughter, Brylie Wells and 4 other grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Deborah Montee and her husband, Skip, one nephew, Martin Wells, and one niece Rita Montee.

The family invites friends and other family members to a visitation from 12:00 – 1:30 pm with a memorial service at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Grace Community Church, Riverton, KS. Wes Davis will officiate. He will be escorted to his final resting place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS by his fellow Patriot Guard Riders.
