Pittsburg welcomes football season with annual community contest

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Local businesses decorating their stores for the Pittsburg “Paint the Town Red” event today had their designs officially judged.

According to the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, the contest pumps up the community ahead of PSU’s first football game of the season.

“Originally, they would do a balloon launch and autographs with the football players, but it grew into something so much more that takes a week-long,” said Jon Bartlow.

In total, 27 businesses participated this year.

“Tomorrow there will be thousands of alumni rolling into town from Kansas City, Witchita, really all over the midwest,” Bartlow said.  “It’s great for them to be able to see all these decorations and all the festivities.”

Officials say the contest winners will receive field tickets for the first game.
