Crowder Community College Agriculture Department new semester

NEOSHO, MO. – Crowder Community College’s Agriculture department is starting the semester off with a flurry of activities.

CCC sits on 600 acres of land, more than half of those acres are farmland. “We use Crowder College farm, which is about 400 acres to bolster and help our education. We’re all about hands-on kind of exercises in our classes,” said Jorge Zapata, the Division Chair. The farm creates additional income for the college. “Something that we are proud of, that we have some income opportunities through the sales of the calves in the lambs and the goats throughout the seasons,” said Zapata.

Zapata’s goal is to create innovators within the new generation of farmers. “They can’t farm as their grandfathers farmed. They’re gonna have to be more efficient. They’re going to have to be more creative. Multiple revenue streams,”

In addition, aggies are preparing for the state Professional Ag Students contest in Springfield against Missouri colleges and universities on career readiness skills such as resume writing, employment interview, public speaking, and ag knowledge skills. The competition is November 4-6 at Ozark Technical College.
