Chetopa hosts knap-in event to teach Cherokee traditions

CHETOPA, Kan. – Cherokee Nation has a rich history.

To help preserve it, Chetopa has hosted a knap-in every year, for the last 3 years.

Knapping is the art form of shaping stones by hitting them and making stone tools or weapons, or even building walls.

At the Neosho River Knap-in, participants get to learn the art of making arrowheads.

If you’re interested in learning knapping, you still have a chance to stop by.

The event lasts until 6 PM Sunday.
