Barbara J. Weiss

Barbara Jean (Brandon) Weiss was born on April 13, 1935, to Borden Clifford Brandon and Pearl May

Cunningham Brandon in the township of Fairview, KS, in Labette County. She died peacefully in Clearwater, KS, on August 12, 2022, at the age of 87 years old. Early on in life, she became very close with her grandparents as they were vital for her well-being. She was especially close to her grandmother, Elizabeth Pearl Wadsack. Barbara attended Oswego Public High School and excelled as a baton twirler in the marching band, and many other activities she found a passion for.

In 1950, her mother, Pearl, married John Emery Weiss. Through this marriage, Barbara met Robert Emery Weiss. Robert had enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and due to the heightened intensity of the Korean Conflict, would soon be deployed. This would be the start of Barbara and Robert’s love story as they began exchanging letters. Their unending love for one another held true and the man of her dreams, Barbara so often called him, returned home. Barbara and Robert were united in marriage on July 5, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

To this union would be the addition of two sons, Rick Emery Weiss, born September 14, 1953, and Robert Michael Weiss, born April 29, 1958. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She was a volunteer for the election board and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In their 49 years of marriage, Barbara and Robert enjoyed countless memories. Going dancing at the VFW and entertaining friends and family at their home were at the top of their list.

Barbara enjoyed her family most of all; she was a proud grandmother to her five grandchildren. Family vacations to Branson, Missouri, Big Brutus celebrations, backyard baseball games and cookouts were moments where Barbara and Robert shined and created lifelong memories for their children and grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Weiss and her two sons Rick and Michael Weiss. Her family takes comfort knowing she is finally with her Weiss guys again as she missed them so very much. Barbara is survived by her daughter-in-law, Robin Weiss, of Argonia, KS; grandson, Alex (Callie) Weiss, of Manhattan, KS; granddaughters Amber (David) Griffin of Burns, KS; Ashley (Ryan) Anderson of Kingman, KS; Angela (Brian) Martin of El Dorado, KS; and Andrea (Ross) Eidman of Cottonwood Falls, KS; great-grandsons Brock, Wyatt, Jaxen, Owen, Eli and Parker: and great-granddaughters Shae, Stella, Adyn, Hannah, Aly and Franklynn.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 10:30am at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, KS with burial following at the Oswego Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from  6 to 8 p.m., Friday.  Memorial  contributions  are suggested  to  the  Wounded Warrior Project and these may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.

A most precious statement from Robert to Barbara in one of his letters to her… “B.J.- Maybe someday, somewhere, there will be a place for you and me. In fact, I plan on it.” R..W. (1951) Barbara lived the rest of her days looking forward to making this sentiment a reality.
