Dorris Elaine Westbay

Dorris Elaine (Metsinger) Westbay passed away on Friday August 5, 2022. She was born on April 4, 1943, in Lamar, MO to Jack and Zelda (Hosselton) Metsinger. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1963 and moved to Joplin where she lived with her grandmother while attending Statts Beauty School. She returned to Lamar and worked for Jenny Hilton Beauty Shop on the square. She married Harold Dean Westbay in 1964. Dorris worked several places in her life. In addition to the beauty shop she worked for Lamar Drug for about 10 years, did ironing, and cleaned houses for about 20 years before she retired. Dorris was dedicated to her family, church, and community. She was a town girl who made a great hobby farm wife. She enjoyed raising Polled Hereford cows and hogs. She was a hard worker and would take her small daughters with her as she raked hay for her father-in-law. She supported her husband in his position of district governor of the Lion’s Club where they attended conventions as far away as Philadelphia and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and she served as president of the Lion’s Club. Dorris was a Pink Lady/Volunteer for over 20 years at the hospital. She loved her church family and served where needed. Along with Lynn Ann, she organized memorial meals for around 20 years at the Baptist Church where she became famous for her Coca Cola Cake. Dean and Dorris were active members of the Sheldon Square Dance Club in the 80s. She was a talented lady who sewed clothes for her little girls and made square dance dresses and shirts as well. She was a great cook. Saturday mornings the cooking channel would come on first thing and stay on until noon. She also enjoyed her soap operas, and her family knew to quiet down so she could watch them. She was a loving wife and mother who leaves behind a legacy in her family. She is survived by her husband; daughters Kristi (Scott) Gordon of Lamar, MO and Kathy (Mike) Koehn of Lamar, MO; grandchildren Chelsie (Brandon) Bowling of Republic, MO, Marc (Elizabeth) Graves of Pittsburg, KS, Charity (Cody) Gardner, Zach (Cyrussia) Gordon, Bethany (AJ) Eaves, Kaitlyn (Stanley) Hurt, Phajjia Gordon, Riddick Gordon, Dominick Gordon, Jycoby Gordon, Rylee Gordon, Sophie Gordon, and Roman Gordon all of Lamar, MO. She is also survived by great grandchildren Jaden, Adi, Anna, Chase, Payton, Kodi, Addi, Lane, Gwyn, Grant, Saylor, Clayton, Madi, Preslee, and Koe who is expected to arrive October 9, 2022; and sister Katherine Howrey of Carthage, MO. She is preceded by her parents; sister Jackie Morgan; and father and mother-in-law Harold and Irene Westbay. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday August 10, 2022, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Konantz Warden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday August 11, 2022, at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church of Lamar.
