Stranger with candy reportedly approaches kids in SE Kansas

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – Authorities are looking for a Grove, Oklahoma man who reportedly gave children candy and got personal information.

According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, on July 31, 2022, they took a report of an older white male driving a white 2011 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. The man allegedly spoke with several male juveniles at a park in Cherokee, Kansas.

Police say the man reportedly was wearing underwear and a shirt. He allegedly showed the children his car and gave them large bags of candy. Police say he asked the children for their home address, which one of them provided.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man told the juveniles he would come by their house at a later time and “rev his engine” so they could come out and get more candy.

Police say he then reportedly left the area.

They identified the man as Kirk William Owen from Grove, Oklahoma. The Sheriff’s Office released a photo of Owen.

On August 3, 2022, around 9:30 am, authorities say Owen returned and was driving by the same children’s home in Cherokee, Kansas. However, a neighbor stopped him. Owen was driving the same white Corvette convertible.

After the neighbor confronted him, Owen reportedly fled the area and has not been found.

Surveillance video captured the Corvette. Police released a still image.
