Roy James Bartram

Roy James Bartram, 72, a resident of Severy, KS, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at KU Med
Center. He was born on August 27, 1949 to Charles and Lorraine (Hense) Bartram in Cleveland, Ohio.
Roy graduated from Cleveland High School and went on to receive an Associates degree from Kansas
City Kansas Community College.

On June 29, 1985, Roy married Janet Mackintosh. They had waited three long years, maintaining the
relationship long distance until Roy took a job in Kansas City, Kansas so they could be together. Around
1989, Roy and Janet opened their home to foster children. After several years, Roy became a facilitator
for the State of Kansas and taught classes for other new foster parents. He and Janet eventually felt that
they needed to bring their family to a more rural area and bought some “flat land” in Severy to give
their growing family more space and opportunity to grow further. Over time, Roy and Janet raised 11
children together, 8 of which they adopted from foster care.

Roy enjoyed any and all activities that could bring his family together. He was a greyhound trainer for
many years; he loved to bowl and fish and eventually enjoyed all of these activities even more when he
was promoted to Papa. Roy’s leadership, selflessness and fierce love for his family will always be
treasured by those who were lucky enough to know him.
