Chester “Bob” Robert Yates

Chester Robert “Bob” Yates, age 85, Webb City, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation.

Bob was born June 14, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, to the union of Louis A. Yates and Fairlee L. (Peters) Yates. He joined the military shortly after high school and was a guard on the Berlin Wall from 1960 – 1961. Once he had returned home, he married the love of his life, Helen I. “Jean” on April 8, 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma. They settled in Carthage, Missouri before retiring and moving to Joplin. Together they were blessed with 51 years before her passing on June 28, 2012. He loved to be outdoors and enjoy the beautiful views that came with it. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and bingo. He loved his dogs almost as much as he loved his own children. Bob enjoyed telling jokes and was a jokester all throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Yates; two brothers, John Yates and Louis “Pat” Yates; and one sister, Joan Myers.

Bob is survived by his three children, Sandra Dickey, Robert Yates (Heather), and Scott Yates; four sisters, Alice Hackworth, Mary Parks, Helen Kelly, and Linda Farrell; one brother, Charles “Ed” Yates (Cathy); 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. until service time in Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Burial to follow at Park Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Joplin Humane Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the special direction of Parker Mortuary.
