Shoal Creek and Grand Falls water search continues in Joplin, Mo. for missing man

JOPLIN, Mo. — An adult male is missing along Shoal Creek after he was reported to have gone over the Grand Falls just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Water Rescue teams searched until well after sunset last evening when it was deemed too dangerous to continue and the search resumed this morning.

This morning Missouri State Highway Patrol Tpr Sam Carpenter tells us State Water Patrol are working surface search and using depth sonar.

Joplin Fire Deputy Chief Andy Nimmo says Joplin Water Rescue, Mo Dept of Conservation officers and Redings Mill Water Rescue are assisting State Water Patrol. These other teams are working close to the falls.

The area of Grand Falls is closed to the public. It is part of the city of Joplin. The roadway is closed to traffic along Grand Falls Plaza Rd/Riverside Drive.

Joplin Police tell us the road and park closure will endure till further notice.

It was shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday when it was reported an adult male had gone over the falls in a recreational tube. He did not resurface.

Joplin Water Rescue responded emergency assisted by Redings Mill, Neosho and Galena Kansas. The search of the waters extended until about 9 p.m.
