Galena’s Sarwinski signs to Pitt State baseball

GALENA, Kan. – Galena High School standout Brett Sarwinski signed on Wednesday afternoon to continue his baseball career with Pittsburg State.

“Getting the opportunity to go play baseball for them is going to be a great experience for me,” Sarwinski says, “They really care about their players. They want them to succeed and they want the best for them. I feel like I’ll fit right in there when the time comes.”

It’s a familiar place for Sarwinski – whose two older brothers, PJ and Nick – currently play for the Pitt State football team.

“Growing up, I was always around Pitt State with my brothers playing there,” Sarwinski adds, “It’s awesome. It’s something I’ve thought about it a lot. Being a Gorilla is something I think I’ve really wanted to do for a long time now. I’ve always been there and it’s just a great atmosphere to go to. When you go there and visit with everyone, it just feels like you’re part of the family.”

Sarwinski will play on the infield for the Gorillas.

He’s an All-State baseball player for Galena High School, but he can do it all.

Sarwinski is a four-sport All-State athlete for the Bulldogs.

On the basketball court, Sarwinski is the 2X defending 3A Player of the Year. He’s also an All-State football player for Galena and was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl this summer.

Now, he’ll focus exclusively on baseball for coach Fornelli and the Gorillas.

“It was hard to choose. I love playing all sports,” he says on the decision to play college baseball, “When you get into one, you just start liking it the more you go. Now just focusing on one, it will be a different experience but I think I can handle it.”
