BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. – (WATCH) Frontenac claims a regional title and earns a trip to Manhattan for the 3A state tournament Tuesday night.
The Raiders hit seven home runs on the day, beating Girard 10-0 in the regional semifinals and Baxter Springs 12-4 in the regional championship.
“We wanted a little redemption for last season, and we knew coming in we had the squad to do it,” says head coach Cassie Rhuems, “I’d be lying if I said this whole season has been super successful for us, because it hasn’t. We’ve had our bumps in the road. We’ve been waiting as a coaching staff for these kids to explode like they did today, and really figure out who they are as a team.”
“I think we feel more confident, but we still have that underdog mentality,” says junior Hattie Pyle, who hit three home runs on the day, “We’re still a young team with only one senior. Having those younger girls step up and do their jobs, it’s just really awesome.”
