Bodycam: Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers rush to save suspect pinned in burning car

TULSA COUNTY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol want to recognize the heroism of troopers who attempted to rescue a suspect who had crashed into a building and both caught fire on March 27, 2022.

Trooper Aaron Kern #696 arrived on scene to the crash in Sperry, Okla. and the car and building were already on fire.  As you can see from the bodycam video Trooper Kern and others jumped into action.

The fire had become aggressive, growing quickly. He and other officers on scene jumped on top of the car and climbed into the building where they could see the driver’s legs were pinned. They worked to remove bricks and wood that had covered the driver but could not remove the suspect. At one point in time, Kern even fought the fire from the back of the vehicle, trying to keep it from reaching the man.” – Oklahoma Highway Patrol

First responders, Leut. Mark Southall #81, and others got a wrecker to pull the vehicle out so the suspect could be extricated. However he could not recover from the critical injuries and later died.
