News to Know: Body discovered in Newton County well, and Missouri approves a $46-Billion budget

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. – Authorities find a body after a tip leads them to a well in Newton County, Missouri. The property is at 20364 Crane Drive, an area southeast of Seneca. Officials began digging there on Tuesday. Sheriff Jennings would not speculate the body’s identity, but believes it is a male and victim of a recent crime. When asked about suspects, Sheriff Jennings said he didn’t want to name anyone to protect the investigation, but did say officials are well aware of the people living on this property.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri senators approve a roughly $46-billion dollar state budget. Negotiators now have a little more than a week to hash out differences between the house and senate plans. House lawmakers left billions of dollars in surplus funding unspent. Senators used some of that money for local projects and more money for K-through-12 public school busing. The budget also includes a ban on using public funding to reimburse Planned Parenthood for caring for Medicaid patients.

JOPLIN, Mo.- Missouri recovers 95 percent of jobs lost during the pandemic, and Joplin is one of a few cities leading the recovery in the state. According to the Missouri State Chamber, some areas of the state’s economy have grown above pre-pandemic levels. The latest quarterly economic report from the state shows Joplin’s unemployment rate is at 2.25%.

JOPLIN, Mo. – A local business is showing its support for the Joplin Police Department. As you know, last month three officers were shot and two of them died of their injuries. Now Old Chicago in Joplin is donating 20 percent of its sales to the Joplin Fraternal Order of Police to benefit the families of the fallen officers. Old Chicago will continue this event through Thursday.
