Thursday Blog: Thunderstorm chances and severe weather threat. -Doug

I hope you guys are having a great week so far and enjoying the fantastic temperatures.  But of course, thunderstorms back in the forecast.  Hey it is almost May.  Quick looking down the road, some strong storms Thursday, severe threat Friday night.  Some stronger storms Monday, Stronger storms maybe severe next Tuesday night and into Wednesday.  Severe threat next Friday the 6th.  Severe threat the 13th, 17th, 21st, 25th and 28th.  So several shots over the next month.  Let look at thunderstorms getting going during the morning hours.

Scattered thunderstorms continue during the morning hours.  A few of these will be stronger but not severe.  By the afternoon most of them shift off toward the east.

As a warm front lifts north during the evening hours.  Some additional scattered thunderstorms will pop back up, mainly north of I-44.

Friday will be warm and windy with temperatures into the upper 70s.

Severe threat really pops on Friday evening.

I am keeping the overall threats low right now but these may go up.  Probably a better shot of going up over down.  The highest threat will be in SE KS.  Thunderstorms will develop during the evening hours.  As the cap breaks in central KS, all modes of severe weather will break west of our viewing area but start working into the area sometime during the late evening hours.  Most likely as early as 8PM to as late as midnight.

Showers and thunderstorms will plow SE through the night.  We will carry a wind and hail threat with a low tornado threat through the night.  I do think when these storms get into the metro they will weaken.  I will keep you updated.  Long range forecast is below.
