Police disclose Double drowning in Lake Keystone after boat capsizes

PAWNEE COUNTY, Okla. – Pawnee County Deputies recovered two bodies from Lake Keystone approximately 8 miles southeast of Cleveland, OK.

Officers say the drownings occurred on April 25 around 5:00 pm. Officers say both victims were recovered within minutes of the incident.

According to the police report, the victims’ boat became disabled and capsized soon after 1 mile east of Cowskin Bay Ramp

Police pronounced the first victim, William C. Smith, 87, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, deceased at the scene. The report indicates Smith wore a floatation device when the boat capsized.

Police say they will not release the name of the second victim, 74, as they have not been able to contact the victim’s family. Police say the second victim was not using a flotation device. Officers pronounced him deceased at the scene.

According to the police report, the victims were recovered in 22-feet of water.

This case was investigated by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Pensacola Fire Department, Cleveland EMS and the Marine Enforcement Division of Troop W.
