Jessie Ray Hayes

Jessie Ray Hayes, age 71, passed away at 6:42 pm., Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO

Jessie was born December 2, 1950 in Webb City, MO. His parents were Ray and Clara Mae (Phillips) Hayes. He had lived in Baxter Springs since 1986, moving from Galena, KS.

He graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1971. He worked as an auto parts recycler, working several years at Lost 40 Salvage Yard, Carl Junction, MO and also at Clay Cole’s, Baxter Springs. He especially enjoyed working on old Chevy vehicles, going to Grand Lake, and watching old westerns. His greatest joy was being with his kids.

Jessie was married to Brenda Kay Hopkins on September 19, 1986 in Galena. She survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Tommy Ray Hayes (Tina Coffman), Dakota Ray Hayes, and Nolan Thomas Hayes (Kelsey Evans); one daughter, Alisha Marie Hayes all of Baxter Springs; three brothers, John Hayes, Tulsa, OK, Wesley Hayes (Christina), Joplin, MO, and Wendell Hayes (Donna), Weir, KS; and one granddaughter, Marissa Lynn Kean.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rodney Hayes and Ralph Hayes.

The family has scheduled a memorial service at noon on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Spring Grove Apostolic Faith Church, Galena, KS.
