Steven Joseph Schmidt

Steve Schmidt of Monett, Missouri passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the age of 58. He touched many lives and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Steve was born on March 13, 1963 to the late Joseph Schmidt and Joyce (McCaffrey) (Schmidt) Tinklepaugh. He graduated from Monett High School in 1981. Steve married Pam (Nibert) on July 10, 1987, and they were best friends and soulmates for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Parish. Steve was also a dedicated employee of Friend Tire Co. where he worked as a sales manager for 39 years.

The most important thing in life to Steve was spending time with family and friends. Schmitty was an avid hunter, a Cardinals fan (and “team leader” on many family trips to Busch Stadium), and enjoyed trips to Oaklawn in Hot Springs, AR. He loved gardening and salsa-making and was famous for his “Grandma Schmidt’s” dill pickles. Steve lived the family motto of “it’s in the veins”–with his selfless spirit and trademark smile and with jokes, stories, and sayings that will continue to bring laughter and loving memories to family, friends, and generations to come.

Steve is survived by his wife, Pam, and his children Miles (Skylar) Schmidt and Madison (Abraham) Russell and was, most recently, a devoted “Pappy” to his grandchildren, Baker and Bellamy Schmidt. He is also survived by his mother, Joyce Tinklepaugh; his three sisters and their spouses: Susan and Greg Severs, Sharon and Craig Kelley, Mary Jo and Dan Reiff; his brother and spouse, John and Kara Tinklepaugh; by his father- and mother-in-law, Larry and Barbara Nibert; by brothers-in-law Nick (Melanie) Nibert and Doug (Tammie) Nibert; by sister-in-law Tammie (David) Doss; and by 17 nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his two dads, Joseph Schmidt and Larry Tinklepaugh, and his grandparents Joseph and Mary McCaffrey and Albert and Flora Schmidt.
