PITTSBURG, Kan. – (WATCH) Pittsburg High School senior Elle Slaughter signs on Tuesday to continue her softball career at Labette Community College.
“What stood out to me about Labette was that I actually got to practice with their team, and I meshed with the girls so well,” Slaughter says, “They were all very welcoming. The coaching was great and I loved being able to practice with them. It really gave me a feel for how softball was going to be there in their program. Softball is just something I know like the back of my hand. I just don’t think I would ever stop playing. Obviously it’s not a life-long sport…but this is a very great opportunity for me.”
Slaughter will be a four-year starter for the Purple Dragons when they hit the field this spring.
She will play catcher for the Cardinals next season after wrapping up her high school career.
“I’ve been playing softball my whole life, so I know the sport really well. I think I’ll be confident,” she says of moving up to the college game at Labette, “With the coaching and the girls, I just felt very welcomed, so I’m not going to be as nervous going in.”
“This opportunity means a lot to me. With my parents starting the Purple Crush organization, softball has been our life forever,” Slaughter finishes, “Going on with this is a great opportunity for me. I love this sport. We all do.”
