News to Know: Grove woman headed to prison for assaulting a murder witness, and Joplin police search for armed robbery suspect

GROVE, Okla. – A judge sentences a Grove, Oklahoma woman who plead guilty to assaulting a witness in a murder case. Marie Morrow plead guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian country. She is sentenced to 30 months in prison and two years supervised probation. Authorities say Morrow assaulted a witness in the 2019 murder of Jerry Tap in an attempt to intimidate them. JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Police Department is searching for an armed robbery suspect. According to the JPD, the suspect held the cashier at the Corner Convenience Store on Maiden Lane at gunpoint, demanded cash, and left with that cash and merchandise. The employee wasn’t hurt. JOPLIN, Mo. – A Joplin college student accidentally opens himself up to identity theft after opening an email. The student received a seemingly legitimate employment ad. The email looked like it came from his college. He replied and applied, and received a check later with a letter telling him to deposit it, spend the money on gift cards, then send photos of the backs of the gift cards back to the people who sent the check. Stephanie Garland with the Better Business Bureau says it was then, the student realized it was a scam.

The BBB urges you to be very cautious when shopping online for these vintage and second-hand items, due to an increasing number of scam reports. These include people ordering their vintage item online and either getting a knock-off, or, in some cases, nothing at all.
