US 59 crash claims life of Locust Grove woman, 2 others injured

DELAWARE COUNTY, Okla. – A two-vehicle crash claims the life of a Locust Grove woman and injuries two other Oklahoma residents.

The crash happened on Sunday, January 9, 2022, on US-59 about ¾ of a mile south of Jay, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded shortly after 2:00 pm.

Authorities say the two-vehicle crash claimed the life of 25-year-old Haleigh Witt of Locust Grove. She was driving a 2017 Chevrolet with no one else in the vehicle. Witt was pinned for multiple hours after the crash. The Jay Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to free her, but she died due to injuries.

There were two Eucha, Oklahoma residents in the second vehicle. The driver and passenger both suffered injuries.

The Highway Patrol says 1st Flight took 64-year-old Nanette Jones to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They admitted her in fair condition.

Grove EMS took the passenger, 37-year-old Shelena Jones, to Mercy Hospital Joplin. They admitted her in fair condition as well.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, they are still investigating the cause of the crash.
