JOPLIN, Mo. – Police allege a Joplin father fatally shot his daughter during a disturbance on Sunday.
Joplin Police Officers arrested 59-year-old Todd J. Mayes. According to the Police Department, investigators are working with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on formal charges.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name.
Fatal Shooting Incident, Father allegedly shoots daughter
On January 9th, 2022 at 9:46 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center took a 911 call of a report of gunshots at 310 S. Connor Avenue.
During the call, the person told 911 personnel someone had been shot.
Joplin Police Officers responded to the scene and found a 17-year-old female suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers and EMS personnel from METS Ambulance and the Joplin Fire Department began rendering aid. EMS then took her to Mercy Hospital in critical condition.
Officers detained an adult male suspect on the scene. Detectives from JPD responded and initiated an investigation into the shooting.
Authorities determined that the suspect, Todd J. Mayes, age 59 of Joplin shot his 17-year-old daughter during a disturbance at the residence.
Police arrested Mayes who is in custody in the Joplin City Jail.
Shortly after 8:00 am on January 10th, detectives learned the 17-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries and died. They are scheduling an autopsy.
The Police Department plans to release further details “as they become available.”
