Friday blog: Starting to warm back up, but when will we get more snow? -Doug

I hope you had a great Thursday and are staying warm out there.  Cold start to Friday but at least most of the snow will be melted away as we start to warm back up.  Here is where we sit so far.

We are way behind on snow.  Most of us ranged in the 1/2″-2″ of snow with this weak wave.  But we average 12″ for a season, so we have a long way to go.  We used to average 16″ but that average is dropping the past few decades.  So lets look what is ahead and when our next chances will arrive.  Cold start Friday but at least we get above freezing.

Clouds will start to increase Friday night with showers picking up Saturday.  This could start with a few sleet pellets but not a big deal.  Best rain chances move in Saturday afternoon.

Showers continue Saturday night and into Sunday morning.  We may get a few flakes of snow mixing in Sunday morning, but mainly rain.

So lets look down the road.  Arctic air retreats!  The Jet stream surges back north and allows us to warm next week.

So we will be pretty calm until late next week when our next storm system works in Thursday and Friday with rain and possibly some snow chances.

This is the part of the pattern that we were in around November 11th, no arctic air then, but I expect it to surge right back in by next weekend.  Check out the long range below to get a detailed look at when thunderstorms and snow chances will be over the next several weeks based off the Heady Pattern.

Next Friday & Saturday: Turning colder with rain and snow chances both days.

Jan. 16th-22nd: Mainly a cold week as the arctic air will continue to flirt with us.  Slight chances for snow on Monday and then again Wednesday.  Rain or snow chances as well on Friday, but these are all weaker waves so we will have to see if anything can come together.

Jan. 23rd-29th:  A chilly start but right back to mild early in the week.  Slight rain chances on Monday but better chances for rain or snow on Friday as we cool back down.

Jan 30th-Feb 5th:  Cool the first half of the week but a mild second half of the week.  Slight rain chances on Thursday and Saturday.

Feb 6th-12th:  Mainly a cool week with rain chances Monday and snow chances on Tuesday.  Thunderstorms and mild temperatures by the weekend.

Feb 13th-19th:  Sunday turning colder with rain or snow chances.  Warming through the week with thunderstorms Thursday and Friday with colder air working in that could finish with snow.

Feb 20th-26:  Mainly a cool and dry week with rain and snow chances on Thursday.
