William Charles Kapler

OLATHE, KS – William Charles Kapler, 89, of Olathe, died December 28, 2021 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS.
He was born December 11, 1932 in Pittsburg to John A. and Anna M. Sigler Kapler. He had lived in Baxter Springs, KS for 50 years before moving to Olathe in 2014.
Mr. Kapler graduated from Kansas State Teachers College with his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army.
He married Dorothy Ann Fortino on September, 3, 1955 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2021 in Overland Park, KS.
He was a Design Engineer and Draftsman for Eagle Pitcher for 40 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father. He was a proud father of his children and family. He grew up in Baxter Springs, KS, he was an all conference high school football player, started varsity team freshman year college football, built the house in Baxter where he and Dorothy raised their family, he could build or repair anything and was the ultimate problem solver, loved woodworking and had a craftwork business during retirement and also loved to play the organ, dedicated KC Chiefs fan and a devout catholic of German descent that appreciated family values.
Survivors include two daughters Kim Watkins (Bernie), Overland Park, KS, Kathy Schreiner, Overland Park, KS and one son Kevin Kapler (Cheryl), Nashville, TN, three grandchildren Evan Schreiner (Christi), Ethan Schreiner (Tanner), Eran Schreiner (Taylor), five great-grandchildren Hudson Schreiner, Greyson Schelstrate, Brody Schelstrate, Weston Schelstate and Mason Schreiner. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob Kapler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Wednesday, January 5, 2021 at the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS with Fr. Gary Pennings and Msgr. Thomas Tank as concelebrants. The family will receive friends at 9:15 am until the rosary begins at 9:40am. There will be a light lunch gathering in the church basement after the service. Graveside committal services will be 3 pm Wednesday at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. The service will be live streamed at www.bathnaylor.com.
