Schalk to play in Shrine Bowl on future home field at Pitt State

COLUMBUS, Kan. – Columbus High School standout Kody Schalk has been selected to play in the 2022 Kansas Shrine Bowl this summer.

“I woke up and looked at my phone and I had a message that said congratulations on the Shrine Bowl,” Schalk says on how he found out about his selection, “I was kind of shocked. It feels good to do something like that. Not many people get to do this. It’s for a great cause. I’m blessed and thankful for all the coaches who helped me get there.”

Schalk is a committed to play in college on the defensive line at Pittsburg State – meaning when he steps on the field this summer for the Shrine Bowl at Carnie Smith Stadium, he’ll get his first taste of game action on his new home field.

“It’s going to be awesome to play there and get a feel for what it’s like to play with everyone there,” Schalk says, “I’m probably going to take a minute to look around when I get out there and realize this is my new home and this is where I’m going to be. I can’t wait for it to start.”

Schalk is an All-Conference and All-State player for Columbus High School.

He finished his senior season with the Titans with 63 tackles in 8 games. He also recorded 13 tackles-for-loss, 4 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

The southeast Kansas standout will join five other local players – and some of the best seniors in the state on the East roster in the Shrine Bowl.

“It’s going to be fun playing with them. All the kids I saw on the East side I’m happy to play with,” Schalk says, “They’re all aggressive players and great guys, and I’m looking forward to playing with some of the best of the best.”
