Margarette Beasley-Clugston

Margarette (Ball) Beasley-Clugston of Cherokee, KS, passed away on Saturday, November 13th, 2021, at her residence.

Margarette was born on March 7, 1931 to the youngest child of William and Laura Faye (Best) Ball in Moffatt, AL. At an early age, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of McCune, Kansas.

She attended and graduated from Mt. Carmel Grade School with County Honors. She attended high school at Crawford Community High in Cherokee, KS graduating in 1948 as valedictorian of her class.

In September 1944, she moved with her parents to their farm home on Lone Star Road, Pittsburg.

On July 14, 1956 she married F.A. “Bud” Beasley in Wharton, TX. Margarette was employed with Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, New Gulf, TX as a departmental secretary for twenty seven years, retiring August 4, 1983. Shortly after her retirement she and her husband moved to their home on Lone Star Road, Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2010. On July 22, 2011, Margarette married Warren Clugston in Pittsburg, KS, residing in Cherokee, KS.
Mrs. Clugston was a member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry and various committees, Episcopal Church Women, serving as treasurer, Episcopal Morning Prayer Group, Kent Chapter #117 – Order of the Eastern Star, Weir; Rob Morris Chapter #74 Order of the Eastern Star, Pittsburg, AARP, Woodmen of the World History Association, Republican Women’s Club, Lone Star EHU, County Club Golf Association, Informative Study Club, Past President of the Crawford Community High School Alumni Association, Progressive Study Club, and Book Lovers Club.

Survivors include her husband of the home, one nephew Doug Watkin and wife Judy of Brasor, TX, two nieces, Pam Pearson and husband Bill of Austin, TX, Eleen Carr and husband Mike of Georgetown, TX, four step-daughters, Vicki Clugston, Kathi Thompson and husband Dale, Connie Jeffery and husband Jim, and Sheri Barnet and husband Pat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband F.A. Beasley, sister, Mary Schuiltz and husband George, sister, Shirley Anderson and her husband Roy.
A graveside service for Mrs Clugston is set for 1:30 PM Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Brenner Mortuary to sign the register book from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Cherokee Methodist Church and/or the St Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
