FRONTENAC, Kan. – The Frontenac Raiders host the Holton Wildcats on Friday night in the 3A state semifinals. Frontenac enters the matchup with a 9-2 overall record, while Holton is still undefeated at 11-0.
Friday’s game is a bit of a revenge game for the Raiders.
Holton knocked Frontenac out of the playoffs in the quarterfinals last season, beating the Raiders on their home field 42-6 to move on to the final four.
“Last year I don’t know if we believed we were going to win. I think our kids believe it. We’re excited for the challenge,” says Frontenac head coach Mark Smith, “We know how good they are, but we’re motivated to prove others wrong.”
“They’re a smash-mouth football team. That’s what we love on defense. We love going against those teams that run the ball heavy,” says Frontenac senior lineman Lane Franklin, “We prepare for it heavy. We went against them last year. We just feel like we’re going to be prepared this time.”
“It’s more about just executing and who is going to win the one-on-one battles,” Smith adds, “They won them last year. They were more physical. They tackled better and all that. The little things matter and that’s what’s important.”
Frontenac’s game against Holton kicks off at 6 PM Friday night in Frontenac.
