Virgil Dee Baker, Sr.

Virgil Dee Baker, Sr. of Miami, OK passed from this life Monday, November 15, 2021 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, OK. He was 95.

Virgil was born September 27, 1926 in Bluejacket, OK to Leslie and Waunita (Melton) Baker. He graduated from Vinita High School Class of 1945. After high school, Virgil served in the United States Army in World War II. He had lived in the Miami area over 70 years.

Virgil worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami 38 years and owned and operated Virgil Baker Trucking Company in Miami for 20 years. He was an avid cowboy and loved rodeoing where he was active in all events. He was a member of the American Cowboys Rodeo Association, where he was voted Judge of the Year for A.C.R.A. and where he was a Lifetime Gold Member. Virgil was also a member of Grace Church in Miami, the V.F.W. Post and American Legion Post 147 in Miami.

Virgil was married to Rosalee (Osborn) Baker 1947 – 1965. He married Shirley Dean Buffalo in 1965 and she preceded him in death August 6, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Edward Baker, 1 sister, Fern Strong and 1 step-grandson.

Virgil is survived by 2 sons, David Lee Baker and his wife Cathy of Miami, OK and Virgil Dee Baker, Jr. and his wife Patti of Miami, OK, 3 step-sons, Warren Harkins and his wife Caroline of McAlester, OK, Cade Harkins and his wife Lynda of Pryor, OK and Kim Carrigan and his wife Linda of Miami, OK, 1 sister, Francis Corn of Tulsa, OK, 5 grandchildren, Holly Hollon, Nicholas Baker, Loren Bradach, David Baker, II and Brandon Baker, 5 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK with Rev. Phil Shyers officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Miami, OK with Hayden Hollon, Jim Hollon, Nicholas Baker, Brandon Baker and Gary Reynolds serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 – 6 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
