Earl D. Ward

Earl D. Ward, 88, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 3:20 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021, at Oakview Estates.

He was born July 11, 1933, at Uniontown, KS, the son of Floyd E. and Opal K. (Hancock) Ward.  He would go onto graduate from Uniontown High School in 1951 and Kansas State Teachers College in 1969.

Mr. Ward served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  He served from 1954 until being Honorably Discharged in 1957.

On January 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Lauber at Ft. Scott, KS.  She preceded him in death on April 15, 2020.

Mr. Ward worked as a computing operations manager at Pittsburg State University for 39 years before retiring in 1999.

Membership was held in the First United Methodist Church, Pittsburg, where he served as a Chairman trustees, finance, and education.  He also served in the Pittsburg Kiwanis and on the City of Pittsburg Planning and Zoning Board from 1990-2017.

Mr. Ward is survived by one son, Phillip Dean Ward and his wife, Cara of Frontenac, KS, one daughter, Sharon Lynn Hilton and her husband, Aaron of Aurora, MO, one brother, Albert Ward of Derby, KS, one sister, Nancy Franklin of Vinita, OK, four grandchildren, Adam Ward, Kimberly King (Ben), Baylee Hardimon (Trey) and Devon Hilton (Jordan), five step grandchildren, Mathew Hilton (Jessica), Victoria Erickson (John), Garett Gebhardt, Bailey Humbard (Brandon) and Jordan Gebhardt, five great grandchildren and twenty one step great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents.

A service for Mr. Ward is set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Reverend Mark Chambers officiating.  The service will be live streamed through Mr. Ward’s obituary page at www.brennermortuary.com.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Uniontown Cemetery, Uniontown, KS.  The family suggests memorials to the Wesley House and/or PSU Athletic Scholarship Fund.  Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
