Confidence builds for MSSU defense ahead of matchup with Lincoln

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions hit the road this weekend, facing Lincoln in week 6 of the MIAA schedule.

The Lions are 1-4 overall and trying to avoid their third consecutive loss, while Lincoln is 0-4 heading into Saturday’s game.

The Missouri Southern defense is aiming to stay rolling after a solid performance against Pittsburg State last weekend. The Lions held the Gorillas to a season-low 323 yards and forced two PSU turnovers in the red zone.

“Probably the most impressive thing about our defense is that they don’t flinch,” says head coach Atiba Bradley, “We’ve faced teams week in and week out who are having success 30-to-30. Our guys have continued to keep their chests puffed out and we find ways to make plays in the red zone. You have to have the ability that when you give up a play…to know that it’s not over until they cross the goal line.”

“The confidence definitely grows week by week,” says defensive back Jerod Alton, “We show up every day. We try to be as consistent as we can. We work hard. The tempo is great. I feel we’re going to have a great game on the defense end. I’m just looking forward to the game. I’m focused.”
