Irene Bolen

Irene Bolen, 90, of Parsons, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Elmhaven Nursing Home in Parsons.

Mabel Irene Bolen was born March 2, 1931, at Liberty, to Steve C. and Pearl M. (Smith) Burlingame. She grew up around the Timber Hill and Dennis areas and attended elementary school at Mt. Triumph and Timber Hill Schools. She graduated from Dennis High School in 1949.

Irene and Martin A. Bolen were married at Cherryvale on October 14, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. She was employed at the Lee Manufacturing Co. in Cherryvale from July 1951 to August 1952 and at the Hallmark Card plant in Parsons from August 1952 to June 1957. In June of 1957, she began a lengthy career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Parsons that lasted until her retirement in April of 1983.

Irene enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and reading. She is survived by two sisters, LaDonna Reedy of Neodesha and Irma Knedgen of Girard, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded by her parents, Steve and Pearl Burlingame, and two sisters, Naydene Walters and Lorene Knedgen.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Grove Cemetery southwest of Dennis. Donald Eugene DeLange

Donald Eugene DeLange, 91, of Brazilton, died at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021 in WestRidge Retirement Community in Girard.

Don was born October 15, 1929 in Girard, a son of John Albert and Mary (Morton) DeLange. He grew up and attended schools in Girard and graduated from College High School in Pittsburg. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, now PSU, in Pittsburg.

Don married Margie May Michael on November 19, 1950 in the United Methodist Church in Girard. Margie preceded him in death on September 17, 2017.

Don sold Stormor Grain bins starting in 1966 and in the years to follow, he and his family owned and operated DeLange Equipment Company in Brazilton.

Don enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren, raising cattle, and horses.

Survivors include his sons, Mike DeLange of Hepler and Pat DeLange, and his wife, Nancy, of Brazilton; his daughters, Janice Han, and her husband, David, of McCune and Denise Butler of Lansing, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marrion DeLange; a son-in-law, Tom Butler; a granddaughter, Michelle DeLange; a grandson, Kolter DeLange; a brother, Howard DeLange.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday.

Aaron L. Spencer

Horseshoe Bend, ID- Aaron L. Spencer, age 47, a truck driver, died Sunday September 26, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Arrangements are by Midland Cremation Society of Joplin.

Joyce Barton

Joyce Barton of Noel, MO passed from this life Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, AR. She was 62.

Joyce was born June 20, 1959 in Miami, OK to Sidney and Louise (Turner) Mathews. She had lived in Noel for the past 12 years moving from the Treece, KS. She had worked at Simmons Chicken Plant in Noel, MO.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Claude Barton September 26, 2021, her father Sidney Mathews and step father Leroy Johnston and her brother Mitchell Mathews.
Survivors include her son Chad Barton of Noel, MO, her mother Louise Baird of Baxter Springs, KS, 5 brothers Bus Mathews of Bentonville, AR, Joe Mathews of Columbus, KS, Rick Mathews of Springfield, MO, Denny Johnston of Baxter Springs, KS and Robert Johnston of Colorado, 1 sister Donna Lamb of Galena, KS, 3 grandchildren Brianda Sanchez, Selena Barton and Jolissa Barton and 4 great grandchildren Juanito Sanchez, Giovanni Sanchez, Ariana Sanchez and Dysel Myers.

Richard Carl Napier

Richard Carl Napier of Miami, Oklahoma passed away September 27, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Richard was born January 7, 1937 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Thomas Melvin and Opal Beatrice (Quinton) Napier.

Richard grew up in Barnsdall and was a natural mechanic at a very young age. He worked on cars, washers and dryers, lawn mowers and many other items, even making parts that were no longer available. His first job was a paper delivery boy at age 9 with routes in the morning and evening delivering both the Tulsa World and Tulsa Tribune. At age 14, he began working at Oklahoma Tire and Supply Store for Bob and Dorothy Cribbet in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. In 1967 he went to work for Cities Service Natural Gas Pipeline in Tallant, Oklahoma where he was later transferred to Miami, Ok in 1972. He would later be transferred to the Joplin station when they were purchased by Williams Natural Gas Pipeline from which he would retire in 1998. He was awarded numerous safety medals along with various other accolades over his 31 years with the company. He served on the Barnsdall volunteer fire department for 17 years. He held many roles including Assistant Fire Chief and was then named Chief in 1969 before resigning to make the move to Miami in 1972.

Richard married the love of his life, Mary Lou Hill on July 9, 1956, in the Methodist Church of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. They would raise 3 sons together over the years. He was a good Christian man as well as being a proud Cherokee citizen and instilled these values in his family. He was a loyal Husband, loving Father, and very caring Grandfather. He was happiest when all the family would gather, always carrying his camera to capture the moments. Every year for 27 years, Richard and Mary Lou would spend a week vacationing and laughing with his brother and sisters along with their spouses usually in Branson, MO where they carried a long-standing reservation at the Twelve Oaks Inn. After his retirement, they would travel all over the United States, usually bringing along any family that could join.

Richard is preceded in death by two sons Stanley Ray and Lewis Craig. His parents Opal and Thomas Napier, sister lwannah Ross, twin sisters Ramona Tucker and Lavonna Shreffler, (baby) sister Willella Napier. His brothers Archie and Thomas Melvin Napier Jr. and brother in-laws Joe Tucker and Howard Ross.

He is Survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Lou Napier, sons Karl and Keith, brother in-laws Herbert Shreffler, Otha Hill, sister in-laws Reba (Hill) Goodell and Joanna (Edinger) Hill along with 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Ethel Reece Memorial Cemetery in Barnsdall, OK. Rev. Ron Forrest will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Ok. Hailey Jade Spencer

Hailey Jade Spencer of Springhill, FL passed from this life Friday, September 24, 2021 at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. She was 16

Hailey was born January 15, 2005 in Miami, OK to Terry and Catrina (Powell) Spencer. She had lived most of her life in the Quapaw and Peoria area. She was a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe.

Stephen L Cox

Stephen L. Cox, 61, of Petrolia, KS passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. Stephen was born on July 20, 1960 in Iola, KS, the son of Dale L. and Phyllis L. (Mercing) Cox.

Steve grew up in Humboldt and upon graduation from Humboldt High School, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the Marines, Steve returned to the Humboldt area and worked various jobs throughout the years.

Steve enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, hunting, fishing on the river, the snow, rain, shooting guns and riding his motorcycle. Phoebe and Brodie deeply miss their human and his snuggles.

Steve is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Janice Achor, his step-sister Heather Wallace, daughter Heather Hutchins, step-sister Holly Brunner and his step-brother Christopher Wallace. Steve also leaves behind two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy Irene Bohannan, 78, a longtime Afton resident passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Beulah L. (Long) Wilson

Beulah L. Wilson, 87, of Arma, passed away at 2:10 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Arma Health and Rehab.

She was born April 3, 1934, at Gross, KS, to Dave and Ada (Williams) Long.

On September 15, 1958, she was united in marriage to Herman “Catfish” Wilson at Reno, NV.  He preceded her in death on March 5, 1982.

Mrs. Wilson worked as a nurse’s aide before her retirement.

She is survived by one son, Nick Wilson of KS, three daughters, Brenda Wengel of CA, Debbie Gates Martin of OR, and Tammy Clark of KS, grandchildren, Jeremy Peters, Shawn Peters, Autumn Clark, Jacob Clark, Michelle Wilson, David Wilson and several others, great grandchildren, Samantha Peters, Axten Peters, Corbin Peters, Madison Covey, Abby Sellers, Chloe Clark, Trevor Clark and several others.

In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Robert Gates Jr., and Dale Wilson, four daughters, Carol Brooks, Cheryl Schmidt, Linda Owens, and Kimberly Wilson Peters, and ten brothers and sisters.
