Staying quiet for the next few days – Nick

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Our cold front passed through as expected yesterday. Before it did, we kept things a bit on the hot side with highs in the lower to middle 90s for the past few days. Each day had quite a warm up after we saw lows in the upper 50s on Monday and upper 60s yesterday.

As advertised, the front brought in some isolated showers and t-storms yesterday evening. Any rain that made its way down ranged between a tenth of an inch to almost an inch under the heavier pockets of rain. While the rain chances mainly stayed in southeast Kansas and into parts of northeast Oklahoma, we did have a few t-storms go severe for some quarter-size hail.

You can see how the jet stream setup looked last night. The northwest flow of the jet pushed the front through at the surface. With us back on the milder side of the jet and behind the cold front, this is setting up a few good days around here.

After we had lows drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s this morning, we’ll continue with mostly sunny skies and a light north breeze all day long. That’ll push us into the upper 70s by the noon hour and highs into the lower to middle 80s for our Wednesday afternoon.

The same setup will stay in place for Thursday. With clear skies and a light breeze to take us down into the upper 50s tonight, we’ll see highs quickly bounce back into the middle 80s for Thursday afternoon.

While the rest of the forecast period is looking fairly quiet, I’ll still keep an eye on a quick and weak wave that wants to try and clip us Friday morning. While that may try to bring a random shower or t-storm or two our way Friday morning, most of the area will be dry as the weekend gets started. However, the upper-level ridge out west starts to heat things up once again. After lows start in the middle 60s, we’ll see highs back around 90 for Friday afternoon.

For Saturday and Sunday, it’s all about the upper-level ridge. Under partly to mostly sunny skies, we’ll have lows in the lower to middle 70s and highs in the lower to middle 90s for each afternoon.

You can see how it stays mainly quiet for much of the forecast period. By next Tuesday, we’ll see if a tropical feature can develop in the Gulf of Mexico. If that stays in the forecast, some moisture from the Gulf could try to send some rain chances our way by the middle of next week. Otherwise, we’ll keep Tuesday dry with partly sunny skies in place. It’ll still stay hot with highs in the middle 90s on Monday and lower 90s on Tuesday.

Have a great Wednesday!

Nick
