Mary Kugler

Mary Kugler, 84, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 4:08 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was born May 1, 1937 to Lurie Garland and Leota (Slane) Bolander. She attended a rural school and graduated from Parsons High School in 1955. She loved to sing and while in high school and junior college was an active member of the Polychromes, her church choir and the Parsons Community Choir. In 1957 she graduated from Parsons Junior College. She attended summer sessions at Kansas State College of Pittsburg and taught two years at the Inglish School.

Mary had worked for a short time at the J. J. Newberry Store, at Adventure Line Manufacturing Co. and for seven years at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. She worked at several nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant and was at the Elmhaven West Nursing Home 15 years.

Mary was a life member and past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, was the auxiliary soloist and held various offices until her health declined. She was an avid bingo player. She was a long time member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she was a soloist and choir member. She also belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary and was a Past President of the Parsons Teacher’s Association.

On June 10, 1956 she and Keith Kugler were married at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church. They later divorced.

Survivors are four children, Kent Kugler of Joplin, Missouri, Pat Thompson of Oswego, Kansas, Kathy Duff (Greg) of Thayer, Kansas and Kim Wills (Ryan) of Columbus, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Bolander (Ineke) of Belmont, California, Jack Bolander of Fairfield, California, John Bolander (Linda) of Parsons, Kansas and Jerry Bolander (Tandy) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three sisters, Martha Merrill (John) of Newnan, Georgia, Linda Darkis (Jimmie) of Parsons, Kansas and Carol Moore (Noel) of Coffeyville, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Bolander of Ft. Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Joe Bolander and a granddaughter Chenelle Thompson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Pat McReynolds officiating. The service will be live-streamed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Homes Face Book page. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.

Waylon Hester

Waylon Evan Hester, age 49, passed away at Freeman West Hospital August 28, 2021.

Waylon was born on September 22, 1971 in Carrollton Georgia to Shirley (Shelnutt) Meredith and Walter (Butch) Meredith.

At age 18 he took his beloved step-father Jerry Hester’s last name.

Waylon is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Boyer) Hester, his four children Rayvn Hester, Harlee (Sierra) Hester, Jaxson Hester and Zoey Hester, his half-sister Kelley (Meredith) Jones, half-brother Dakota Meredith, step-sisters Natasha (Gaston) Neir and Krystal Gaston.

Waylon is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Shirley (Shelnutt) Hester.

Waylon enjoyed spending time with his family, his fur babies, and fishing any time he could. He had a big heart, a big personality, he loved life and his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There is no service planned at this time as Waylon wished for his ashes to be scattered by family at a location in Georgia.

Betty O. Barber

Betty O. Barber, 93, of Frontenac, KS, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Oakview Estates.
A private graveside will be held at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital or Shriner’s Transportation Memorial fund.

Henry Emmanuel Ericson

Henry Emmanuel Ericson, a resident of Hiattville, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, at the age of 91.

Henry was born on March 1, 1930, in Salina, Kansas on his mother’s birthday, to Clarence Cornelius and Amelia Gladys Helena (Hanson) Ericson.

In 1940, his family moved from Assaria, Kansas to Savonburg, Kansas to farm with his grandfather. Henry graduated from Elsmore High School in 1948.

He was a lifelong member of Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg, where he married his lifelong companion, Doris Graham, on December 24, 1952.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 serving at Sault Saint Marie, Michigan.

They returned to Elsmore and then moved to Hepler working for farmers in those areas.

In 1962, they purchased their own farm near Hiattville. As a young 4-Her in the Happy Hustlers in Allen County, he started his Angus cattle herd under the Double X Bar brand.

At Hiattville, he started the Cloverdale Angus Farm, but kept the brand. He was a member of the Kansas Angus Association, the American Angus Association and helped form the Southeast Kansas Junior Angus Association so his grandchildren could begin their own herds.

He was also a member of KLA, served on Bourbon County Extension Board, Bourbon County Fair Board and was a 4-H swine leader for the Hiattville 4-H Club.

In 1990, he and Doris were inducted into the Kansas Master Farmer Homemaker group for their Extension, agriculture and community involvement.

In 2007, his family was recognized as the Kansas 4-H Family of the Year. He served as the President of the organization.

He served on the board of the Friends Home Lutheran Church, USD #235 School Board, and Craw-Kan Telephone Board. For sixty-seven years he was a Free Mason attached to the Virginia Lodge #315 and a thirty-five year member of the Thompson-Harkey Post #25 American Legion.

Henry is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years and seven months, Doris, his daughters, Debra Lust, Ft. Scott, Karen Ericson, Riley, Kansas, Susan Jones (Roger), LaHarpe, Kansas and Brenda Peacock (Terry), Golden, Missouri; his sons, Kevin Ericson (Donna), Frisco, Texas and John Ericson (Ellaine), Ft. Scott, Kansas, seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Crowley, of Frontenac, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by a son, George Russell “Rusty” Ericson, his parents and two brothers, Gordon and Dale Wesley Ericson. Henry will be remembered by his family and friends as a fun loving, hardworking, God- fearing man that will be missed.

Rev. Chub Bolling will conduct funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 5th at the Friends Home Lutheran Church west of Savonburg, Kansas. Burial with military honors will be in the Elsmore Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elsmore Alumni Scholarship Fund or the Bourbon County Fair Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS.

Julia Ann Rowan

Julia Ann (Doyle) Rowan, age 61 of Carl Junction, MO, passed away at 12:10 AM on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital following a hard-fought battle with COVID.

Julie was born on September 8, 1959 in Joplin, MO to the union of Robert Doyle and Orissa (Gayler) Doyle. She graduated from Memorial High School with the Class of 1977.

She was united in marriage with Mark Douglas Rowan on April 14, 1978 in Joplin, MO. Together they lived in Joplin and eventually Carl Junction where they raised one son, Kyle, and still resided. Julie was a loving and joyful soul who loved her family immensely, her wonderful friends, laughing until she cried, animals and especially her pets, and taking care of an array of flowers and plants at her home.

Her husband Mark passed away several weeks prior, on July 16th. Julie described him as her “angel waiting on the other side.” She was also preceded in death by her mother, Orissa Doyle.

Survivors include her son, Kyle Rowan and his wife Kate of Kansas City, MO; her father, Bob Doyle of Joplin; and two sisters, Angie Minshall (husband, Steve), and Cindy Lawson (husband, Doug).

A joint memorial visitation for Julie and Mark will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:45 PM at the family home at 9025 County Road 300, Carl Junction, MO. Upon the conclusion of the visitation, friends will be invited to follow in procession to Carl Junction City Cemetery where there will be a memorial graveside service beginning at 12:00 PM.

Gary Beehler

Gary E. Beehler, 69, Fairland, OK passed away August 27, 2021 at his son’s home surrounded by his family.

Gary Eugene Beehler was born October 8, 1951 in Vinita, OK, the son of Marvin Eugene and Donna (Stafford) Beehler. Gary formerly worked for Pettit Mop Plant, BF Goodrich, Kirby, then eventually worked for and retired from Cinch. He loved to fish and hunt and spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren which leaves behind a legacy of memories. Gary was a member of the Cornerstone Faith Mission Church in Bluejacket, OK.

Gary Eugene Beehler married Dona Bradley September 24, 1971, Miami, OK and she survives.

Additional survivors include his children; Marsha Russell and Josh, Fairland, OK; Shane Beehler and Melissa, Fairland; Jason Beehler and Diana, Bluejacket; one brother, Dwayne (Glen) Beehler, Miami, OK; one sister, Tonya Chandler, Fairland; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Gary was blessed with numerous neices and nephews and they were a very important part of his life.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son Randy Eugene Beehler, his step-mother Louise Beehler, and two sisters Charlene Mabery and Treva Sharp.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Cornerstone Faith Mission Church in Bluejacket, OK. Funeral services will be held at 2pm following the visitation with Carroll Hopkins officiating.

Burial will be in the Fairland Cemetery with Shane Beehler, Jason Beehler, Dalton Wilmoth, Layne Wilmoth, Cody Beehler, and Kenny McKinzie serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaylee Beehler and Devern Bradley.

Services are under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.
