Ethan Jeffrey Rosenstiel

Ethan Jeffrey Rosenstiel of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on August 2, 2021 after being diagnosed with AML in December 2020.

Ethan was born on May 27, 2004 to Jamie and Troy Rosenstiel. He grew up with three younger siblings, Sydney, Jorja, and Marshall and attended Pittsburg schools. He loved his brother and sisters and loved animals. His absolute favorite was his cat, Mercy. He looked forward to going to school to see his friends and teachers. He played clarinet and enjoyed Marching Band. While he was undergoing chemo treatments and losing his hair, his friends kept him entertained with stories and games online. Ethan told his Mom how lucky he felt to have such good friends.

Ethan was diagnosed with AML, a type of cancer, at Christmas time 2020. He spent his final moments with his Mom, siblings, and Grandfather along with his favorite doctors and nurses from Children’s Mercy, who have provided his care over the past 8 months while undergoing treatment. He battled bravely through three rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. While in the hospital he kept his sense of humor, teasing his Mom and favorite nurses relentlessly. As his health declined, his spirit never wavered. He was kind and true to himself til the end. Ethan was a beautiful, crazy-fun person with a big heart. He will be missed greatly by so many because of the wonderful son, brother, friend, student, grandson, nephew, cousin and amazing person he was.

Ethan didn’t want a traditional funeral. He said “Death is bad enough without being boring”. He loved Star Wars, Minecraft, Overwatch, and Anime, and his family asks that you honor his wishes and wear your favorite graphic t-shirt if you plan to join his Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 8th anytime between 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Lodge, 2312 West 4th Street, Pittsburg, Kansas.
