Pittsburg prepares to represent Kansas in Little League Midwest Regional

PITTSBURG, Ks. – Pittsburg continues its hunt towards the Little League World Series title.

“You grow up watching the Little League World Series, so just that opportunity to make it there is very exciting,” says Pittsburg coach, Walter Busch. “The guys are really excited to go there and play some good baseball.”

Pittsburg went undefeated throughout the state tournament. Now, they advance to the Midwest Regional Tournament in Indianapolis.

“It felt good beating a good team in Baxter Springs and just getting to know that we get to go to Indianapolis and play against good teams,” says Pittsburg player Colton Simmons.

They are ready for the challenge.

“We’ll have to hit well to score runs and then our pitchers will have to throw strikes, but I think we have a really good group of kids here that can do all of those things, so it’s just showing up and making sure they play,” Busch says.

“We’re definitely confident,” Simmons says. “We’re ready to have fun and play in Indianapolis.”

Pittsburg Little League has a history of success. Most recently, they sent teams to Regionals in both 2018 and 2019.

“I got to watch my brother do the same thing,” Simmons says. “I just want to follow in his footsteps.”

Now, they get the chance to not only represent their home town, but their home state.

“It’s an amazing experience,” Simmons says. “Getting to representing Kansas, best little league in Kansas. It’s fun.”

“I think that’s the neatest part. This is just a really supportive and nice community,” Busch says. “The boys have really enjoyed getting to represent Pittsburg.”

The team plays its first game of the tournament on August 7th against Minnesota.
