Oklahoma man drowns while swimming in the Elk River

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – A Commerce, Oklahoma resident drowns while swimming in the Elk River.

The incident happened on July 26, 2021, around 5:00 p.m., about three miles north of Noel, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joel F. Pascual, 27, was wading in the river when he ventured into deeper water.

Authorities say he was unable to swim back and drowned. He died at the scene.

This is MSHP Troop D’s 14th drowning for 2021. Troop D serves the following southwest Missouri counties: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon, and Webster.
