Phyllis Marie Ogle, 92, of Joplin, MO, died Wednesday July 21, 2021 at her home following a short illness attributed to dementia.
Phyllis was born February 7, 1929 in Cornwall, Ontario. She was the daughter of James F. and Leonne J. (Doyon) Burke.
After high school, Phyllis moved to Kansas City to attend nursing school, where she earned her degree and graduated in May, 1951. She worked as a dedicated Registered Nurse for Providence St. Margaret Health Center, where she earned the Outstanding Nurse Manager Award. She retired in 1991, after 40 years of service.
On September 5, 1954, Phyllis wed her soulmate; Joseph S. Ogle, they remained married for 64 years until his death on April 20, 2019. They welcomed four children.
After retirement, Phyllis moved to Pittsburg, KS to be closer to her family. She was a devout Catholic, attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
She loved to fish, play bingo, work in her yard planting flowers and spending time with her family. She later moved to Joplin, MO.
Survivors include her children; Mary Monzel (Steve) of Joplin, MO, Joseph Ogle of Tulsa, OK, Kathryn Ogle of Joplin, MO, Donna Zimmerman (Mike) of Joplin, MO and Vickie McCraw (Jim) of Houston, TX; siblings Neil Burke and Nancy Fortie – both residing in Canada; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe, her parents, and two brothers – Danny and Jimmy Burke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am, Thursday July 29, 2021 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Weidenbenner as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.
The Rosary will be recited at the church at 9:30am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
